recipe @ home | easy creamy cilantro avocado sauce | five ingredients

sauces can make all the difference, flavoring a dish for good or for bad.

this is an easy, quick sauce to make, boosting sour cream into something remarkable. it tastes great on unleavened bread, crackers, and vegan chicken sandwiches. it can also serve as a dip for veggies.

recipe

makes about half a cup.

ingredients:

  • 7 tablespoons vegan sour cream

  • 1/3 cup avocado, cubed

  • 5 tablespoons cilantro

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • pinch black pepper

instructions:

  1. place all of the ingredients into a small, miniature food processor.

  2. process until the cilantro is reduced to specks immersed throughout the sauce and the avocado is fully embedded.

you may not like the taste of vegan sour cream on its own. it depends on the individual. morph it into this sauce and the taste may just change your mind.

bonus tips:

  • there used to be one vegan sour cream option at the local grocery store — now there are plenty. this recipe uses the original tofutti brand of sour cream. i believe tofutti was the first vegan sour cream in america. if you prefer a nut-based sour cream, those are now available on shelves too. i use tofutti because i know tofutti delivers consistent results.

  • also, prior to purchasing, check that the plastic seal has not been broken. no one wants to eat a tampered, spoiled product. this happens more than you think with “dairy” products in general. and check the expiration date as well. again, it happens more than you think.
