have tea for two @ home

recipe @ home | hot cinnamon spice tea latte | three ingredients

it’s time for decaf. i don’t know about you, but i started drinking heavy amounts of coffee when i worked for corporate america.

a quarter cup became a full cup. a full cup became two shots of espresso. by the time i exited the lifestyle, i was downing eight shots a day. i did it for the kick. but when it stopped working, i did it for the flavor.

as i sit more rested now than i have been in the last 20 years, if i drink the “weak” stuff, i now get pounding headaches. one day of intense concentration and a few grinds of coffee in a french press equated to my daughter coming home to see me “dying” in bed. i can’t handle my caffeine anymore.

it’s time to make a recipe for “babies” who cannot handle caffeine but want to enjoy a nice cup of hot tea…with a latte twist.

recipe

makes 1 serving.

ingredients:

for the tea, i recommend using the exact version barnes & noble uses. it is sold in tins at their on-site cafes.

  • 1 1/2 cups oat milk

  • 1/2 cup filtered water

  • 2 tea bags (harney & sons decaffeinated hot cinnamon spice sachets)

instructions:

  1. steep the tea:

    • add the filtered water and tea bags into a stainless steel pot.

    • heat the water on medium-high until the water starts to boil, occasionally moving the tea bags in the mixture with a wooden spoon.

    • transfer the tea bags and hot water to the drinking cup.

  2. heat and froth the milk:

    • using the same pot, pour the oak milk in and place it back on the burner.

    • on medium-high heat, cook the milk while constantly whisking. using a whisk to manually froth the milk works! there is no need to invest in a milk frother tool. whisking provides sufficient, comparable aeration of the liquid.

    • remove the pot from the stovetop 30 seconds after steam starts rising and is visible to the eye.

  3. combine:

    • pour the hot oak milk into the drinking cup and let the cup sit for five minutes. the extra few minutes of wait time enhances the flavor.

tastes just like the cinnamon tea latte sold in barnes & noble cafes — minus the cost. oh yea, and minus the sales tax too!

note:

  • harney & sons produces many flavors of tea that come in the most beautiful tea tins. the tea flavor can be swapped for others such as earl grey or victorian london fog.

bonus tip:

  • i used the earl grey tea sachets to make homemade custard ice cream (not vegan). the flavor seeped into the custard cream base perfectly. i highly suggest giving creating tea-based ice cream flavors a try!
